Kolkata. Famous Bengali astrologer Jayant Shastri died in a massive fire at his residence in east Kolkata on Sunday morning. Neighbours and local residents saw a fire on the second floor of Shastri's Kestopur Barawartala residence. He immediately informed the police and fire brigade. Two fire brigade vehicles were dispatched.
The local people first saw the flames at around 8 in the morning. An official said the fire fighting operation was hampered due to dense population in the area.
Later, shastri's burnt body was recovered from inside his house. The recovered body was taken to a hospital, where doctors said that more than 50 per cent of shastri's body had been badly scorched before he was brought to the hospital.
Fire department sources said the cause of the massive fire has not been ascertained at present.
